چکیده

This paper derives the optimal production-shipment policy for a vendor-buyer integrated system with imperfect quality and an amending product delivery plan using an algebraic method. It is assumed that the system may randomly produce certain portion of nonconforming products during each production run. Quality assurance in terms of inspection and rework has been given effect to the defective items during and after the production run. A (n+1) finished goods distribution policy is used in the proposed vendor-buyer integrated system, such a delivery plan aims at reducing inventory holding costs for both producer and buyer. Unlike the conventional approach using the differential calculus on the long-run average production-inventory-delivery cost function with the need to prove optimality before solving the optimal replenishment-delivery problem, this paper adopts a simplified solution procedure using algebraic derivations to deal with the production-shipment decision makings. The result demonstrates that the optimal replenishment lot-size and optimal number of deliveries can be derived without derivatives. Such an alternative approach enables practitioners who with little knowledge of calculus to understand the real world vendor-buyer integrated systems with ease. Key-Words: Replenishment lot size, Multi-deliveries, Supply chain optimization, Vendor-buyer integration, Rework, Scrap

Reexamining a Specific Vendor-buyer System with Rework and an Improving Delivery Plan Using an Alternative Approach

This paper uses an alternative approach to reexamine a prior study on joint determination of manufacturing lot-size and shipment policy in a vendor-buyer system with rework process and an improving delivery plan. The proposed method is a straightforward approach in terms of algebraic derivations. It is different from the conventional method that needs to apply the first-order and second-order d...

Optimal Manufacturer-Retailer Policies in a Supply Chain with Defective Product and Price Dependent Demand

This study deals with a two-level supply chain consisting of one manufacturer and one retailer. We consider an integrated production inventory system where the manufacturer processes raw materials in order to deliver finished product with imperfect quality to the retailer, where number of defective product has a uniform distribution. The retailer receives product and conducts a 100% inspection....

Replenishment Lot Size and Number of Shipments for Epq Model Derived without Derivatives

This paper investigates optimal replenishment lot size and optimal number of shipments for economic production quantity (EPQ) model with rework process using an algebraic approach. The classic EPQ model assumes a perfect quality production for all items produced and a continuous issuing policy for satisfying customer‟s demand. However, in a real life vendor-buyer integrated-production-inventory...

An integrated vendor–buyer model with stochastic demand, lot-size dependent lead-time and learning in production

In this article, an imperfect vendor–buyer inventory system with stochastic demand, process quality control and learning in production is investigated. It is assumed that there are learning in production and investment for process quality improvement at the vendor’s end, and lot-size dependent lead-time at the buyer’s end. The lead-time for the first batch and those for the rest of the batches ...
